Jun 06, 2018

Get Involved: Dementia Action Week, 21 - 27 May 2018
Dementia Action Week took place from 21-27 May

Last week the University was heavily involved in Dementia Action Week, the Alzheimer Society’s annual campaign, with many activities taking place across campus significantly raising awareness of our Salford Institute for Dementia and its crucial work..

The University hosted a panel discussion event featuring Christopher Eccleston, who joined a panel of experts to debate the portrayal of dementia in the media. There was also an afternoon of music performances and Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham visited the Dementia Hub to hear about our community engagement and groundbreaking research.A highlight of his visit was an impropmptu "bake off" with the Mayor and our Vice-Chancellor Professor Helen Marshall.

Over forty people took part in a Sportathon, raising £154 which was then matched by Santander bringing the total to over £300. A telephone fundraising campaign throughout May raised £1,184 and a crowdfunding campaign raised a further £275.

In the lead up to Dementia Action Week,Hayley Daniels from Marketing and External Relations delivered a fun cupcake decorating class at the SIDs café, which was enthusiastically received by guests at the session. Find out how you can put your hobbies and interests to use by contacting the Salford Institute for Dementia.
