Over 100 people attend Brass Band News launch
May 17, 2018
More than 100 people attended the successful launch of The Library's Brass Band News digital archive last Wednesday (9 May).
The Library's digital collection of Brass Band News is the biggest in the world. It was launched at the university's brass band gala in Peel Hall.
The night saw musical performances from the university's brass band, wind consort, classical choir and the wind ensemble, and a speech from University Archivist Ian Johnston about the Brass Band News collection.
He said: "The Library is extremely proud to have fulfilled Roy Newsome's wish of bringing this material to a wider audience, which will serve not only the brass band community but a much broader array of musicologists, cultural historians and creative media practitioners."
Dr Roy Newsome, a world-renowned composer and former Visiting Fellow at the University of Salford, put together the collection. It was presented to The Library following Dr Newsome's death in 2011.
