The completion of the £6.2m Library Development Project was celebrated with a jam-packed day of activities on Thursday 3 May.

An inflatable bungee run and hook-a-duck stall were stationed outside the library. Students competed on these for bragging rights and one-off prizes.

Inside the library, 'library in the park' branded cakes were given out and these proved particularly popular, with 300 going in under half an hour!

Students also heard from University Librarian David Clay and the soon to be Students' Union President Kobby Offori.

David said: "We wouldn’t have got here without you. We involved students throughout the project, you helped us design it, sat in our committees, and created artwork for the wall."

Kobby further emphasised the contributions made by students.

He said: "I can see a lot of student influence. We have 250 more study spaces, 75 more PCs and ten more study rooms and these are all things that the library worked with students to make happen."

Ahead of the launch day, we encouraged students to take pictures of the library for the chance to win a £30 amazon voucher.

A panel made up of Michelle Amos, Head of Marketing, Matthew Andrew, Photography Programme Leader, and Bill Ayres, Amatuer Photograher, chose one winner while students themselves selected the other.

The panel chose Contemporary Military and International History student Boyan Vankov Pashov as their winner, saying that his picture (below) "captured what the library is all about."

Postgraduate student Mufydah Palka won the student vote with a selfie she took with her friend in the library (below).

Thank you to everybody that came along on the day.
