Salford shortlisted for three THELMAs!
Apr 12, 2018
The 2018 Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Awards (THELMAs) shortlist has been announced today, with the University shortlisted in three categories.
The THELMAs celebrate best practice in higher education leadership, management, finance and business. Judges shortlisted the following areas for their vital contributions to university life in Salford for students and colleagues:
Simulation Suites – shortlisted for Teaching and Learning Strategy of the Year
· A state-of-the-art simulation suite to train nurses, midwives and other healthcare professionals, enabling students to experience and learn a critical range of practical skills in as realistic a setting as possible. The suite, which opened in 2016, features rooms that replicate a hospital ward and contains realistic human patient simulators – high-tech electronic manikins operated by specialist technicians from an adjoining control room.
Estates and Property Services – shortlisted for Outstanding Estates Strategy for the New Adelphi
· The opening of the ground-breaking £55m New Adelphi building enabled the University to fulfil an important element of its long-term estates strategy, by bringing hundreds of students previously been based in the more remote Centenary and Adelphi buildings onto its main Peel Park campus. A high-profile ‘statement’ building designed to provide a new home for music, performance, art, design and architecture students, and providing a rich environment for creativity, arts and culture on campus.
Marketing and External Relations – shortlisted for Outstanding Marketing/Communications Team
· The teams' activity delivered a 4% increase in applications, a 5% increase in firm accepts, a 5% increase in conversion, a 20% increase in insurance choices, and an 18 % increase in school leavers (the market was up just 1%). The team managed a major comms crisis, pulling together as a team, as an institution and as a city to #standtogether. 2017 ended with a reindeer rodeo, an ice rink and fireworks - putting on a party for our 2,000 staff to celebrate all that the University has been for 50 years and all that it is becoming.
Helen Marshall, Vice-Chancellor, said: “I’m delighted to see colleagues being recognised for their hard work and dedicated efforts. With three areas shortlisted in the prestigious THELMAs, we’re showing that Salford can lead the way with quality, innovation and leadership behind the scenes; supporting all our colleagues and helping to make sure our students have the best university experience possible.”
The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on Thursday 21 June. You can see the full shortlist here.
