There’s no stopping Salford graduate Rachael McCaul, who recently landed a job at one of the UK’s top production companies, RDF Television, as well opening The Debbies Awards, an inaugural awards ceremony which celebrates the best new and emerging creative talent in television.

Rachael, who graduated with a Master’s degree in Children’s TV Production, said: “During my studies, I was made aware of The Network talent scheme and decided to take part. I was lucky enough to secure a role at RDF on the back of it. Through the Network I gained some invaluable industry contacts and was even invited to present at The Debbies, which showcases the best upcoming talent.”

When asked what the future might hold, she said: “My end goal is definitely to produce or direct, ideally in the areas of factual or children’s. I’m currently working in London but I wouldn’t rule out coming back to Salford to work at MediaCityUK; so many great children’s television programmes come out of there after all.”

The aim of The Network talent scheme is to identify and nurture the next generation of talent from all backgrounds and kick-start their careers in the TV industry. Campbell Glennie, Talent Schemes Director at the TV Festival, said “Rachael was an ideal choice to help launch the schemes and The Debbies as she has had such a fantastic start in the industry - combining her talent with her postgraduate studies at Salford and The Network to secure one of our most coveted paid roles with RDF. We’re looking forward to see what 2018 has in store for her.”

Beth Hewitt, Director of Media Broadcast and Director of Nations and Regions Media Conference, works closely with Campbell on The Network talent scheme said. She said: “Rachael’s success story is evidence of how our industry-focused strategy really does provide the best opportunities for our students, kick-starting their careers and giving them the confidence to go on and do great things. It's fantastic to see our graduates securing places on talent schemes like the Network and then landing great jobs as a result – well done Rachael!”
