CSE continues to connect students with industry
Mar 30, 2018
Last week colleagues in the School of Computing, Science and Engineering (CSE) aimed at connecting our students with industry links and opportunities in the sector.
The PVST (Professional Sound and Video Technology) festival took place on Valentine’s Day to spread the love about all things techy. Students had the opportunity to showcase their work as well as network with media and industry professionals, and there were drone and virtual reality demonstrations throughout the day.
Dawn Shaw, a senior lecturer who organised the event said: “The festival was a great success and gave our students a unique opportunity to work with people from the industries they want to enter after university. This type of hands-on experience and encouragement is invaluable when it comes to our students finding work in their chosen fields.
Last week there was also an Industrial Placements Day, where former CSE students returned to talk about their placement experiences to our current students. There was also over 20 companies at the event, including Manchester Airport Group, Pilkingtons and Stockport Council
Senior lecturer David Newton said: “It was great to see past students returning to the university to share their experiences. Thanks to events like these, we have grown the number of placements from around 45 to over 80 this year.”CSE
