New-look AskUs website now live

Delivering an excellent student experience is key to what we do as a University so a year ago we set ourselves a challenge to give student advice and support website AskUs a fresh new look.
Teams from Digital Marketing, Student Experience and Support and Market Insight came together to review the old website and look at ways it could be improved. “The core aim of the Ask Us website is to help students find the information they need as quickly and easily as possible,” said Jack Burton, Market Insight Officer, who worked on the project. “In order to truly get a grasp of what students wanted on the website we needed to speak to them directly, so that’s exactly what we did.”
Jack and the Market Insight team set up focus groups with students to get an accurate understanding of what they liked about the existing site, along with the type of information they valued the most. “Academic help, support & administration, campus & local information, social life and work & careers all ranked highly,” he said.
Improvements to layout, content and information structure were agreed between the teams. “Student experience was top of our priorities when building the website. We wanted information to be as accessible as possible; in turn this would hopefully help to alleviate the amount of in-person enquiries coming through to the AskUs desk,” said Digital Communications Officer Julia Cannon. “There’s some great new additions to the site, including a friendlier FAQ section with improved navigation and live chat functionality.”
The website is also more responsive to times of the year, with key information highlighted at Graduation, study periods and Christmas for example.
“We’re delighted with the new website,” said Julie Waddicor, Head of Student Experience and Engagement. “The improvements will make a huge difference to our student experience, as well as helping colleagues to support students in the most effective way possible.”
Digital Marketing Manager AJ Handley Rowe is particularly pleased with how the teams collaborated together to achieve their end goal. “This was very much a team effort,” she said. “For months colleagues from across the university have worked together to shape the website which puts student experience at its forefront. I’m sure our students will love it as much as we do.”
The launch of the website also comes just a few months after Creative Marketing unveiled the University’s new brand guidelines. The site features updated design elements, as well as being tailored to suit our new tone of voice.
