ICZ month: Partnership kick starts construction careers
Sep 14, 2017
We’re working with businesses to allow students to earn while they learn in roles including construction, management and engineering.
Degree Apprenticeships allow people to study while working and achieve higher qualifications without building up large student debts. The courses are tailored to key industry skills gaps in a bid to boost the number of qualified employees entering the workforce in important sectors.
Building on our successful Quantity Surveying degree apprenticeship, we’ve expanded our offer with the introduction of a degree apprenticeship in Building Surveying.
Bethany O’Neill, a Management Trainee at Wilmott Dixon, an independent construction and property services company, is currently studying for her BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying. She said: “My degree apprenticeship is absolutely amazing. I love it! I really never thought I could love a job as much as I do and I feel really lucky to be working at one of the UK’s leading independent construction companies whilst working towards my degree at the University of Salford at the same time.
"With a degree apprenticeship, you really do get the best of both worlds; you are earning and learning at the same time. You get to put theory into practice from day one and the hands on experience helps with the university work too – you can really appreciate how the concepts you are taught work in the real-world."
Watch Bethany talk more about her apprenticeship experiences below.
