Annual donor thank you event a great success
Apr 12, 2017
At the end of March, Salford colleagues and students welcomed donors onto campus to celebrate the impact of philanthropy across the University at our annual Donor Thank You Event.
Last year the University was kindly supported by over 880 people whose generosity funds projects, research, staff positions, scholarships and bursaries across the campus.
The thank you event was held in the atrium of the landmark New Adelphi Building by Chancellor Jackie Kay, where guests were able to meet scholarships and bursary recipients.
Donors also had the opportunity to chat with a number of recipients of the Salford Advantage Fund, including Dr Mark Widdowson from the School of Nursing, Midwifery, Social Work & Social Sciences who has been enabled to run Psychological First Aid workshops and our first ever Formula Student team. The University Flight Simulation Society also provided a flight simulator made possible through funding from the Salford Advantage Fund, which allowed guests the chance to virtually fly a Boeing 757 and 'land' at Manchester airport.
Guests then selected one of three activities as part of the University showcase: a tour of the Living and Robotics Lab, exploring the Memory exhibition in the New Adelphi Gallery with University Art Collection staff, or a science demonstration about drugs and the human body with Chemistry lecturer Dr Steve Rossington.
The evening was a massive success, with over eighty donors taking part. For fifty years the University has been educating and advancing the life of Salfordians, both students and staff, none of which would be possible without the generosity of donors. As we continue to excel and grow as an institution, so does our family of supporters.
A huge thank you to all our donors, past, present and future, for their ongoing support of the University!
