Salford Professional Development (SPD) – the University's stand-alone training company - continues to build on recent success by being named one of the fastest growing businesses in Greater Manchester.
The company exceeded forecasts to record a turnover of £3.7 million in 2016, a fourth consecutive year of growth. Now SPD, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the University, has been included on the 2017 Ward Hadaway 'Greater Manchester Fastest 50' list.
The independent awards measure business growth based on accounts filed at Companies House. The initiative, held in partnership with the Manchester Evening News and Greater Manchester Business Week, aims to recognise the organisations which are “helping set the pace of the region’s growing economy”. The overall fastest growing business will be named at an awards ceremony at the Museum of Science and Industry on 19 May 2017.
SPD partners with academics to deliver conferences, courses and bespoke training in the UK and internationally. All profits are gift-aided back to the University to fund teaching and research. SPD is on track to record £4.7 million of turnover in 2017 and has a strategic plan in place to expand its portfolio of events and deliver £3 million profit for the University by 2021.
CEO Marc Davis said: “I’m absolutely thrilled. This remarkable achievement is testament to the hard work and dedication shown by everyone at SPD and by our partners at the University. We have grown year on year since we started in 2012 and I am confident we will continue to build on this success. These are exciting times for Greater Manchester and this goes to show what SPD, and the University of Salford, can contribute to the local economy.”
