Salford Advantage Awards ceremony honours students

The Salford Advantage Awards Ceremony was held yesterday (Wednesday 4 June 2014) in the Council Chamber of The Old Fire Station.
Launched by the University in 2009, the Salford Advantage Award recognises students’ achievements in enhancing their employability, enterprise and personal development skills.
Every student on the Award scheme has taken part in extra-curricular activities, such as volunteering, mentoring, involvement with the Students’ Union, work experience or enterprise activity. This year’s student winners have between them logged a total of 3,817 hours of personal and socially beneficial activity.
The ceremony was opened by Linda Tompkins, Director of Student Life and Professor Helen Marshall, Deputy Vice Chancellor, who presented certificates and trophies to:
Highly Commended Volunteer of the Year: Samantha Gill
Volunteer of the Year: Irfan Syed
Volunteering Team of the Year:
Fruit and vegetable stall volunteers: Toni-Lisa Walsh, Samantha Gill, Ayesha Khan and Lavinia Alexoiu
No Smoking Day Volunteers: Rachael Ilesanmi, Fatima Karim, Damilola Alabi, Beatrice Akerele, Bilikisu Akinola, Sarah Annim, Faith Bagamuhunda, Chinweotito Akunna, Nife Okeyide and Christianah Oyewole
Enterprise Student of the Year: Lavinia-Dumitrita Alexoiu
Mentor of the Year: Abubaker Suleman
Leadership Award: Helen Christie
Placement Student of the Year (Highly Commended): Scott Clarke
Placement Team of the Year: Salford Business School MOOC Team: Rebecca Lee, Vanessa Van Huynh, Luis Santos and Maria Camila Villa Jurado
Certifcates were also presented to 57 students who had successfully completed their Salford Advantage Award. Many others are also taking part in the Award programme at present.
Alex Camm, Salford Advantage Co-ordinator said, "Thank you so much to all those who came to celebrate with us last night - it was a fantastic evening! My congratulations go out to all those students involved who have shown great passion and commitment to their co-curricular activities and made such a ceremony possible - well done and we can’t wait till next year."
