Nominate your 100 Salford Women!

Dec 06, 2010

Salford Staff Women's Action Network (SSWAN) is celebrating the centenary of International Women's Day next year, with a project to highlight the many contributions of the University's women.

To commemorate this historic landmark in women's rights and history, SSWAN will profile 100 female colleagues from all levels and departments across the University in an exhibition at Chapman Gallery.

The exhibition, which will be launched on International Women’s Day – 8 March 2011, will feature female colleagues who have been nominated by you!

If you know a female colleague who has made a contribution to the University of Salford community in some way, then please put her name forward by 6 December 2010*.

It may be someone who is particularly helpful or reliable or who always “goes the extra mile.” Perhaps they have achieved academic success, do voluntary work or generally brighten up the working environment – the list goes on…

One hundred of the women nominated will be selected by a panel to be profiled in the exhibition.

Rachel Challinor, from Student Life, said: “We are actively seeking representations of women from all levels and departments, including support and professional services as well as academic areas.

“Anyone in the University – not just female staff or SSWAN members – can nominate any Salford woman who is making a fantastic contribution to University life. We also encourage self-nominations.

“All you have to do is send us her name and tell us, in no more than 200 words, why you are making the nomination.”

The project will link into the University's Listen! agenda, by fostering awareness and support for the work of the Staff Networks.

It will also enhance the activities of the University by:

• Providing publicity and insight into the work of female staff
• Raising awareness of SSWAN and other network activities
• Raising aspirations of colleagues and students
• Fostering creativity
• Encouraging a sense of community
• Promoting connection opportunities for those involved in the project, those featured and those who visit it.

The exhibition will take place in Chapman Gallery from Tuesday 8 March, for nine days. The photos and profiles will be on display across the University for years to come and there will be an accompanying website.
