Two Cities Boat Race charity awarded £1,000
Dec 14, 2009
Today (Monday, 14 December) the official charity for the 2009 Two Cities Boat Race - Sparks - received a cheque for £1,000.
The funds were raised from the 37th annual Salford vs Manchester student rowing race which took place earlier in the year.
Sparks is a children's medical research charity which funds research paediatric medicine and uses sport to help seriously ill youngsters.
The cheque was presented to Emily Taylor, Community Fundraiser for Sparks North West, by Chris Renshaw, Assistant Director of SPORT at the University of Manchester.
Emily said: "This is a wonderful amount of money and it will make a real difference to our research. We have a wide variety of research projects and it will be a significant sum for them so we want to thank the Universities very much for their support, not only this year, but for the past three years."
The presidents of the Salford and Manchester boat clubs, Caroline Dangerfield and Kate Hodgkinson, were also on hand to show the charity their support.
