Pianist Richard Casey
Contemporary Music Pianist in Residence
Messiaen: La Bouscarle
Stockhausen: Klavierstück IX
Debussy : Études (Premier livre)
Claude Vivier : Shiraz
An exciting programme which contrasts the adventure in piano sonorities of Stockhausen's Piano Piece IX with the birdsong of one of Messiaen's Catalogue d'oiseaux (1956-58). Claude Vivier, one of Canada's most gifted composers, wrote Shiraz in 1977, inspired by travels in Iran. The panorama is completed by the 1st book of Debussy's piano studies, written towards the end of his life.
After graduating in Music at St. John's College, Cambridge, Richard Casey studied piano at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester. In 1997, he won first prize in the British Contemporary Piano Competition. Richard is a founder member of the Manchester-based contemporary music ensemble Psappha.
Richard Casey will also be performing on Tuesday 24 March.
