University celebrates Open Access Week 22-26 October
The University will be celebrating Open Access Week between Monday 22 and Friday 26 October with a celebratory event and a series of special presentations to Schools.
Open Access Week is celebrated by academic and research communities across the world to help inspire wider participation in making Open Access a new norm in scholarship and research.
USIR, Salford’s Open Access repository which is managed by The Library, supports the Open Access agenda by providing researchers with a way of promoting their research outputs more widely and making the results of publicly funded research available free to all.
The celebratory event will be held on Thursday 25 October in The Old Fire Station from 2pm to 3.30pm with guest speaker Brian Kelly of UKOLN, a centre of expertise which advises on digital infrastructure, information policy and data management, talking about open practices and social media for the connected researcher. A number of researchers who have supported the Open Access agenda through USIR during the last academic year will also be acknowledged during the event.
For those who would like to find out more about Open Access at the University, the USIR team will be holding open sessions at the Adobe Research Hotel, MediaCityUK on Tuesday 23 October between 1pm and 4pm.
Helen Kenna, Repository Manager, said: “If you would like a more tailored session we are offering to visit offices directly on Wednesday 24 October, simply email USIR@salford.ac.uk to arrange a time.”
The USIR team can provide support and advice on all aspects of Open Access from retaining rights to your work and Open Access publishing to complying with funding council policies and increasing the impact of your research.
To reserve your place at the celebratory event, arrange a meeting with your Research Centre or a catch up at your desk, please email usir@salford.ac.uk or call Helen Kenna & Helen McEvoy on 0161 295 6370.
