Faculty of SEE’s Celebration of Research
Colleagues from the Faculty of Science, Engineering & Environment gathered for a Celebration of Research on Wednesday, 30 June.
More than 150 people attended the event, which also saw Dr James Christian, from the Materials & Physics Research Centre, scoop the Dean’s Annual Research Prize.
The award, which recognises high-achieving researchers, was presented to Dr Christian by Professor Sue Kilcoyne, Associate Dean for Research & Innovation, on behalf of Faculty Dean Professor Steve Donnelly.
Each year the prize acknowledges a researcher who has who has made an exceptional contribution to research within their research strand. This could be through the production of significant new research findings, high quality publications or achieving a prestigious grant.
Although he was unable to attend in person, Professor Donnelly sent “virtual” congratulations through a pre-recorded video, which was played to the audience. Vice-Chancellor Professor Martin Hall and new Head of School for Environment & Life Sciences, Professor Judith Smith, were in attendance.
Over 85 research posters from staff and students were on display, covering a range of topics. The student offering the best poster, from each of the four research strands within the Faculty, was awarded a £100 prize.
The Celebration of Research event, which took place in the Lady Hale Building, provided an opportunity to review the Faculty’s research highlights from the last academic year.
