University Messaging - Forms & FAQs
If you have a message which you would like to be communicated to all staff or all students, then please submit your request using the forms linked below.
Suggest* a Staff Message
Please submit your message to the
Internal Communications Team for consideration.
Suggest* a Student Message
Please submit your message to the
Student Life Team for consideration.
*Submission is no guarantee of publication and editorial control is reserved.
You must complete each form separately even if your message is relevant to both students and staff. Please adapt the content to suit each audience
Messages must meet the criteria outlined below and can only be submitted by a member of staff. In exceptional cases, student message requests may be considered if they are approved and submitted by a staff member.
Criteria
Your message must relate to the work and role of the University and:
- Be relevant to a large number of staff or students
- Have a brief and meaningful subject heading, with details such as dates, to reduce the need for readers to open the message unnecessarily
- Contain content that is clear and brief
- Contain contact details, and links to further information where this is available
What if my message isn't published?
We will do our best to respond to all message requests and explain if a message cannot published. Please note, Internal Communications and Student Life have editorial control and will base decisions to publish or not, on a number of factors:
- The relevance of the message to the intended audience
- Implications for the University's image and reputation
- The overall balance of messages in terms of numbers and content
- Available staffing resources
The availability of the messaging service comes with no guaranteed right of publication.
Who is managing electronic messaging?
University-wide messaging for staff is now the responsibility of the Internal Communications Team. Messaging to students is now the responsibility of the Student Life Team.
What has happened to the Message of the Day Service?
The Message of the Day service has reverted to its original purpose - that of communicating important messages about ICT systems, IT security and library service availability. This will now complement the main messaging channels currently available - ie US Online and the Student Notice Board.
New ICT systems status information to replace MotD
The Message of the Day Service will be replaced by a continuous message to reflect the status of major ICT systems, security and core library services. This will be published by ILS presented as a ticker (scrolling text) on the Staff and Student Channels. It will also be visible online at www.systems.salford.ac.uk (available from 1st June), and as a pop-up screen upon login to the campus network.
What should I do if I want to publish more than one message?
Please email Internal Communications with your query. If it is appropriate we may consider a regular slot in US Online, or we may need to refer you to Student Life or to ILS, to consider alternative solutions.
