#Winning: We scoop social media award for 'Best Campaign Supporting Student Wellbeing'

A massive well done to our social media and counselling and wellbeing teams, who have just won an Edurank award for the 'Best Campaign Supporting Student Wellbeing', voted for by students.

Our Social Media team, made up at the time of Social Media Manager Catherine Beachill, and Student Social Media Assistants Oliver Potter, India Booth, Seren Hughes and Rhys Blanchard, worked tirelessly last year on the engaging campaign which addressed seven key issues students may face while at university. These include making friends, sexuality, moving away from home, eating healthily, academic challenges, and personal security.

After being informed of the unprecedented increase in demand for our Wellbeing and Counselling services, and aware of the huge importance of providing a wide range of support to meet different needs, the team were eager to explore how social media could help students get the best out of their university experience.

Catherine Beachill, Social Media Manager, says: 

“We are delighted that the ‘Fuel Your Potential’ content series has been recognised in the Edurank Awards. What makes this award even more special is that entries were judged by a panel of current students from The Student Hut Opinion Panel, meaning that we know our content is really resonating with our target audience. All videos and podcasts were devised, produced and edited by our student social media team, and taking into account the input from Wellbeing and the Students’ Union, it truly was a collaborative, cross-University project.”

Margaret Powell, Counsellor in our Counselling and Wellbeing team, adds: 

“The Counselling and Wellbeing team are delighted about this award. We wanted to get the message out to students about ways that they can increase their resilience when dealing with the challenges of university life.  Our team worked closely with staff in the Social Media team on this project, and the result is an effective and attractive presentation which we hope that students will find very useful.”

The result of this work is a permanent addition to the suite of resources the University’s Wellbeing Team offer to students:

Through sharing across social channels, as well as linking in with the UCAS #BelongAtUni campaign the week after results day, an organic reach of approximately 80,000 impressions was achieved. Links to the content are sent out in email communications to all Salford applicants, ensuring new students feel confident and prepared to fully embrace their university experience before they even step on campus.

Edurank highlight and reward institutions’ online activity and give awards to those institutions who have excelled on social media and search during the year. Congratulations team!
