How Salford Professional Development could help you
Jun 13, 2018
Salford Professional Development (SPD) can offer a range of training options for your School or department.
What is SPD?
SPD is a training subsidiary of the University which offers a comprehensive range of professional development courses across specialist divisions. Training is available to both individuals and organisations and can be delivered around a broad topic area for individuals to attend. Alternatively they can develop bespoke courses that specifically meet the needs of your team.
Why use SPD?
SPD works with academics across the University to deliver training to professionals and educators around the UK and internationally. All net profit generated by SPD is paid back to the University via gift aid and distributed to the Schools according to the proportion in which it was generated. It makes sense that colleagues use SPD rather than external agencies to deliver their training as the fees will be reimbursed back into the University.
Please note this is different from Salford’s in-house L&D offer which offers a range of sessions, including support for managers, mindfulness and inductions for new members of staff.
Bespoke & In-House Training Manger David Daniel said: “Salford Professional Development is a valuable fraction of the University and we want to make sure staff know we are here to help with your training needs. We’re proud of the strong network of experts who deliver our sessions and the way we go the extra mile to create bespoke training. We’re only a phone call away so if you have any queries please get in touch.”
What can I learn?
SPD has a wide range of training sessions scheduled here. They cater for a variety of sectors including education, health and social care, media and digital, business and law, the built environment and public services. They can also create an entirely new training package crafted to your specific needs.
One of the best things about using SPD is that, as a staff member, you’ll receive a 20% discount on all open courses.
What are Salford staff saying about SPD?
Ben Gardener who went on the Implementing GDPR in the Private Sector course said: “The course helped to myth bust a lot of common misconceptions around GDPR and was structured in a way that gave me practical tips to apply to real-life scenarios. I was also provided with access to a wealth of useful reference materials.”
Sarah Marin, attended the Public Speaking One Day Course and said: “It was an excellent course, Paul is an amazing tutor and provided me with some constructive feedback about the presentation I delivered. I would highly recommend this course to anyone who wishes to learn how to get attention from their audience and to gain confidence in public speaking.”
Andrew Coles, who attended the Certificate in Management and Leadership Programme, said: “The CMI level 5 programme gave me the insight and the confidence to take a step back from the day to day activities and focus on what my team needed from me as a leader and a manager.”
Kay Weilding, who also attended this programme, said: “The course gave me a completely new outlook on my management style and I can’t wait to take what I’ve learned back to my team. The training makes great use of practical, real-world examples and I came away with some very useful insights. I was worried the three days would be a real challenge but the reassurance and support from my tutor and my course mates made a big difference. I have already recommended the course to two of my colleagues who have signed up for the next session.”
