Reminder: VC's fun run and exciting news about the Salford 10k
Apr 21, 2017
Join the Vice-Chancellor’s charity fun run and be in with a chance of winning a free place on the University of Salford 50th anniversary team taking part in the UKFast City of Salford 10k.
It’s not too late to get your applications in for the Vice-Chancellor’s charity 5km fun run on Friday 28 April. And now there’s an added incentive – as part of our 50th anniversary celebrations, the fastest man and fastest woman will receive a free place on the University of Salford 50th anniversary team of runners taking part in the UKFast City of Salford 10k, which takes place on Sunday 3 September around MediaCityUK. We have 50 places reserved for the 10k race for an anniversary team that will be made up of staff and students. If you would like to be part of this team then simply email Jayne Newton by Wednesday 31 May - email@example.com. Names will be selected at random at the beginning of June – allowing plenty of time for participants to get a training plan in place!
During the 5km fun run on the 28 April participants can join the Vice-Chancellor by running, walking or jogging their way to the finish line, which will be reached through Peel Park campus, across David Lewis Playing Field and historic Peel Park itself. The event is being proudly sponsored by SALFOOD.
You can sign up at bit.ly/VCFUNRUN17 and entry is £10 for colleagues, £8 for students and £12 for other members of the community. Final online entries for the event will close on Thursday 27 April.
Daley O’Neal from the Sports’ Centre, part of the team co-ordinating the event says: “We hope to build on 2016’s tremendously successful event, by generating even more money for our official charity, in addition to getting more people involved. More than 105 people signed up last year and we raised more than £1,500 so we’re aiming to go bigger and better in our 50th year! As an added bonus, because it’s our 50th anniversary, we’ve got two free places for the UKFast City of Salford 10k up for grabs for the fastest man and woman.”
Registration is at 12.15pm on the day, and the event will begin at 1pm. In celebration of the 50th anniversary year 1960s fancy dress is welcomed, but optional.
The Vice Chancellor said: “Through Sport and Wellbeing activities we are able to come together for a great cause and create a great sense of community on campus, in this our 50th year. The 5k run has proved to be a great way of achieving these aims and I even braved the snow to do it last year, so I we hope that even more of you will participate in our traditional sporting event this Friday 28 April. I will be there, whatever the weather, and look forward to seeing you.”
As part of our 50th anniversary celebrations, the University has purchased race numbers 1967 to 2017 for the Salford 10k race with some of our senior leadership team proudly lacing up their trainers to represent the University. In addition to the chance to win a place by coming first in the Vice Chancellor’s fun run, we will be holding a random selection process for the remaining free places. To make sure your name is in the hat, please email your name to Jayne Newton on firstname.lastname@example.org by Wednesday 31 May, putting Salford 10k entry in the subject header.
