A few weeks ago Manchester-based tech company 'Wondrwall' set out Level 5 and 6 design students a live brief, inviting them to come up with new design concepts for their intelligent living system. On Friday (9th February), twelve students presented their ideas to a panel of five, including Wondrwall CEO Daniel Burton, in a series of Dragons Den-style pitches in the New Adelphi Building.

Last week (Friday 9th February) industry from across Greater Manchester came together for a special panel event entitled ‘The Future of Business in Salford’ in Salford Business School. The early morning event marked the official launch and celebration of the Chamber of Commerce’s Members’ Lounge in Lady Hale.
On Friday (9th February) a special exhibition curated by the University of Salford Art Collection team entitled ‘PRESENCE: A Window into Chinese Contemporary Art’ opened in the vaults of St. George’s Hall in Liverpool. The display exhibits the very best of Chinese contemporary artwork from artists hailing from mainland China, Taiwan and Hong-Kong.
The £6.2 million Library Development Project is now complete following the opening of the new ground floor. Clifford Whitworth Library now has 250 more study spaces, 75 more PCs and ten more study rooms.

The Prevent Duty for Higher Education institutions is now just over two years old. The Duty makes it mandatory for all public authorities, including universities like ours, to have due regard to the need to prevent people being drawn into terrorism.
Dr Sam Grogan, Pro Vice-Chancellor Student Experience will be delivering a talk on ‘Embracing Uncertainty’ at an event organised by the University’s branch of the Association of University Administrators. The talk will cover key issues in the external environment which are likely to impact upon the HE sector in the near future, including Brexit, Teaching Excellence Framework, UKVI, the Office for Students and student funding.

We are thrilled to announce the University is taking part in the Greenpower Electric Car Challenge, which will see our students work in multi-disciplinary teams to design, build and race single-seat electric cars. Staff will be vital to the success of this exciting project, supporting students in everything from business and marketing to aerodynamics, graphic design and autonomous systems.
Nominations for the Students’ Union elections are open from Monday 5th February – Monday 16th February. The elections are the most important event in the SU calendar and every year provides an excellent opportunity for students to take part in a unique experience, gaining skills which they can carry forward into both their studies and careers post-graduation.
Students will be urged to ‘be original’ when the Library and Students’ Union (USSU) run their first ever Plagiarism Awareness Week from Monday 12 - Friday 16 February.
